App #2, Check.
So my second app is now live on Android store. This one is quite a bit different and really just another experiment so that I can learn even more about the mobile space and specifically mobile monetization.
The app is called 5-Minute Headache Relief and it’s really quite simple. It is essentially a little Android app that helps people suffering from headaches relieve pain. The app guides you through a series of four proven stretches that release tension in the neck, which is the #1 cause of headaches.
Interestingly 45 million Americans experience chronic headaches and consumers spend more than $400 million annually on headache relief. 5-Minute Headache Relief is a quick and easy way to alleviate pain when if you have a headache right now. Plus, if used regularly, the stretches in this app can help you dramatically reduce the frequency and severity of your headaches.
Here is the back story. I’ve personally suffered from headaches for as long as I can recall. I remember being 10 years old in excruciating pain and having to go to the hospital for what I thought was a terrible migraine headache.
Over the years, my headaches sometimes got worse, and sometimes better, but I consistently got them, and they ranged from 5 to 10 on the pain scale. I tried every migraine and headache medicine on the market; nothing really worked. I just learned to live with them.
About 3 years ago they started getting bad again, so I threw up my arms and started to research to find out what I could really do about this debilitating problem. I stumbled on a number of books that talked about “Tension Type Headaches (TTH)”.
The description for tension headaches sounded just like what I had and the remedy was actually quite simple. All I had to do was four simple neck stretches; and best of all, these stretches worked to prevent and to relieve headaches. You see, tension headaches occur when specific neck muscles tighten up which are directly connected to your head. I didn’t believe it at first, but I soon realized it really worked.
There is no magic here. You can find information about tension headaches and the relief stretches on the internet or in dozens of books. All I’ve done is bring them together in a simple little app. It guides you through 4 simple neck stretches in 5 minutes. It includes color illustrations of the neck stretches and muscle groups; and simple walk-throughs so you can easily follow along. Best of all, it has a built in 30-second timer to ensure you hold the stretch for the right amount of time. The funny thing about stretching is that it doesn’t always work; but that’s because people often don’t do the stretches right and frequently don’t hold them long enough (you need to hold each stretch for 30 seconds).
This is the first app I’ve built that I’m charging for out the gate. It only $1.99, so I expect it to have significantly less traction than my Where’s Mommy app (which has almost 50,000 downloads on Android as of today). But I’m going to learn about paid apps and what drives success there. I’m also finishing up a new version of Where’s Mommy that includes in-game image packs for $0.99 each, so I should have even more data about mobile monetization soon.
Feel free to support me by downloading the app; yes, you have to pay $1.99, sorry. Please do rate it as well.
